Filter out duplicate links

Jaws can now filter out duplicate links. Where there are two links in a row pointing to the same location, one graphical and one text based, previous Jaws' would read both of these links. By Default, Jaws 11 will only read the text based link, thus making reading of web pages more fluent and reducing confusion. This option can be changed from the verbosity dialog.

Speaking number strings as single digits

Jaws 11 will now by default pronounce numbers as single digits when there is a number with more than 4 consecutive digits or if the number is 5 digits with dashes but no spaces: it will be red as single digits. Long numbers with punctuation will be red as they previously were.
This option can be changed and it’s rules altered, from with in the configuration manager under text processing. look for number processing in that dialog. This option has been designed to make phone numbers etc, easier to comprehend with speech.

Research it

The new Research it option can be executed from anywhere in windows as long as Jaws is running. There are three ways to utilize the Research It function.

Once you have finished reading the result, just press the Escape key to return to your previous location.
2. 2. Press JawsKey+Space, then the letter R to launch the Research It dialog. You land in an edit field where you can type your search query, Then press enter. Your then focussed on a list view where you can choose the different research options, such as Wicktionary, weather or Wikipedia. Press enter on the option you wish to use, then read the result in the virtual viewer.
3. The third way to launch the Research It dialog is to press JawsKey+Windows+Control+r. this will bring up the same choices and above.

The Research It option does require an internet connection. More Research IT options will be added in the future. For a more thorough explanation on how this feature works, please see the FSCast’s, found at:

Place markers can now be anchored to text

For some time, Jaws has had the place marker feature, where you can define both temporary and permanent place markers on a web page. This allows you to locate an item on a page quickly. However, on dynamic pages, where the content often changes, your place markers may not move you to the correct location. Jaws 11 now lets you anchor your place markers to specific text or HTML tags, so if the text moves on the web page, the place marker will move along with it.

To anchor a place marker, choose the “Anchor to Text” check box in the place marker dialog, when creating the permanent place marker.
